Some say that it was originally the color blue that was associated with the March 17th holiday of St. Patrick's day. Ireland's nickname as "The Emerald Isle" seems to be the reason that St. Patrick's Day switched from wearing blue to the "Wearing of the Green." St. Patrick also, it is said, used the green clover in his teachings about Catholicism.
On March 17th, people in Ireland do not party as much as the Irish in the states, who use the day to celebrate their heritage and the country they so love.
